Deseret Book complaints should be organized by product type: a physical order, a warehouse cancellation, a damaged item, a digital book or audiobook, a Bookshelf+ subscription, Platinum Rewards, an event ticket, an account issue, or a privacy request. Each issue has a different evidence trail and sometimes a different support email.

Start with the order number, Deseret Book account email, purchase date, item name, shipment tracking, packing slip, subscription billing date, screenshots, and the result you want confirmed in writing. Deseret Book's current support pages list customer service by phone and email, separate contacts for Bookshelf/eBooks/downloads, event tickets, and privacy requests.

Step-by-Step: How to File a Deseret Book Complaint

1 Identify the Deseret Book issue

Choose the issue category: online order, cancellation, shipping delay, tracking gap, damaged item, return, digital content, Bookshelf+ subscription, Platinum Rewards, event ticket, account access, privacy request, or support follow-up.

2 Collect the purchase and account record

Save the order number, account email, item title, receipt, packing slip, shipment email, tracking number, photos, subscription plan, billing date, cancellation screenshot, support emails, and requested result.

3 Use the correct contact route

Use service@deseretbook.com for most order and product complaints, downloads@deseretbook.com for eBooks, audiobooks, music, and downloads, support@deseretbook.com for event tickets, and privacy@deseretbook.com for privacy rights questions.

4 Ask for one clear outcome

Request cancellation confirmation, replacement, refund review, return approval, tracking investigation, Bookshelf+ billing review, Platinum points correction, digital-content accommodation, privacy response, or a written final decision.

5 Escalate with the right record

If Deseret Book does not resolve a billing error, use the payment issuer billing-error route where appropriate. If the issue is privacy-related, use the privacy contact and any state privacy route that applies.

6 Keep the final decision

Save the support reply, return tracking, replacement order, refund decision, subscription end date, privacy confirmation, and any payment issuer notice.

Orders, Shipping, and Tracking Complaints

Deseret Book's order status page says an order usually takes 2 to 3 business days before it leaves the warehouse. The shipping page says in-stock item processing is typically 1 to 2 business days, but high-volume seasons can take longer. From November 24 through December 31, Deseret Book says to allow 2 to 3 business days for processing before the package ships, and personalized items may require an additional 2 days.

Current shipping context:

Topic Deseret Book guidance
Tracking email Sent after the order leaves the warehouse
Carriers USPS, First Mile, FedEx, UPS, DHL, DHL Global, and others may be used
Standard U.S. delivery Typical 5 to 10 business days after the parcel leaves the warehouse
Priority U.S. delivery Typical 2 to 3 business days for contiguous U.S.
Express U.S. delivery Typical 1 to 2 business days for contiguous U.S.
Tracking gaps Some packages may not update daily or may be handed from one company to another
When to contact support If there are no tracking status changes after 7 business days for standard U.S. mail
International fees Customer or recipient is responsible for customs duties, fees, and taxes
Refused international package Deseret Book says refused packages because of customs, duties, taxes, or other fees are not eligible for refunds from Deseret Book

For a shipping complaint, include the order number, ship date, tracking number, carrier, promised or estimated method, last scan, destination country or state, photos if damaged, and the correction requested.

Canceling an Order Before It Ships

Deseret Book says an order or item can still be canceled only if the order has not yet begun processing in the warehouse. To request cancellation, email service@deseretbook.com or call 1-800-453-4532 during business hours. Include the order number and/or email used when placing the order.

If the order cannot be canceled, Deseret Book points customers to the returns process. For a cancellation complaint, include:

  • order number
  • item name
  • time the order was placed
  • time cancellation was requested
  • support email or call notes
  • shipment notification time
  • requested action

Returns, Refunds, and Damaged Products

Deseret Book's returns page says returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase on most items. For mail order customers, the footnote says 30 days from the time the shipment is received, with a 15-day grace period when mailing merchandise back to the warehouse.

Return rules to check:

Topic Deseret Book guidance
Standard return window 30 days on most items
Item condition New, unused, and resalable unless damaged or defective
Return shipping DeseretBook.com does not credit shipping and handling or pay return shipping unless Deseret Book made a shipping error
Damaged or defective products Contact service@deseretbook.com or 1-800-453-4532 before returning
Credit posting Deseret Book says it may take 1 to 2 billing cycles for the bank to post the credit
Retail store returns Proof of purchase and photo ID are required
Church Distribution retail returns 90-day period with receipt or invoice for full refund

Exclusions include personalized items, out-of-print items, opened CDs and DVDs except defectives, clearance items, gift cards, and digital products such as eBooks and audiobooks.

Digital Content and Bookshelf+ Complaints

Deseret Book's digital content page says eBooks, audiobooks, music, and similar digital products are not returnable and cannot be refunded under normal circumstances. If a digital product was purchased in error, the page says to contact downloads@deseretbook.com for an accommodation.

Bookshelf+ has separate subscription rules:

Topic Deseret Book guidance
Content Bookshelf+ grants access to 3,000+ eBooks and Deseret Book's audiobook library through iOS, Android, and web
Cancellation path Log in, visit My Account, open My Subscriptions, choose Bookshelf+, then use Subscription Details and Cancel Subscription
App deletion Deleting the Deseret Bookshelf app does not cancel Bookshelf+
App-store cancellation The current cancellation article says Bookshelf+ cannot be canceled through Apple App Store or Google Play
Access after cancellation Subscription remains active until the end of the paid billing term
Partial refunds Deseret Book says there are no partial refunds for remaining time
14-day billing grace Deseret Book says customers can request a refund during a 14-day grace period after billing
Purchased a-la-carte titles Purchased eBooks and audiobooks remain accessible after canceling Bookshelf+
Notes and highlights Markups are saved to the account and are not deleted when canceling
Trial FAQ says the 7-day trial is for new subscribers only

For a Bookshelf+ complaint, include the account email, subscription plan, billing date, cancellation date, screenshot of My Subscriptions, whether the 14-day billing grace applies, and the email used for the refund request.

Platinum Rewards Complaints

Deseret Book's Platinum Rewards overview says the program costs $25.00 for a full year. Listed benefits include 10% back in points starting with the first purchase, redeemable points, one full year of LDSLiving Magazine, a Bookshelf+ discount, and exclusive promotions or sales.

Platinum Rewards complaints usually involve:

  • points not posting
  • point redemption not applying
  • excluded products or taxes
  • LDSLiving Magazine fulfillment
  • Bookshelf+ discount timing
  • membership renewal or account mismatch
  • receipt not tied to the correct Deseret Book account

Deseret Book says 100 points equals $1.00. The overview also says points may not be redeemed for taxes, gift cards, subscriptions, Church Distribution items, or tickets, and that points are not earned when purchasing those items.

Privacy and Account Requests

Deseret Book's Privacy Notice lists privacy@deseretbook.com and a mailing address for privacy rights questions:

55 North 300 West, Suite 300, Attn: Legal, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

The Privacy Notice says state privacy laws may provide rights to access, correct, delete, portability, and opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or profiling. It also lists a footer link for "Do Not Sell My Information."

For a privacy complaint, include the account email, request type, state, date submitted, verification status, response received, and the action still needed.

When to Escalate Beyond Deseret Book

Situation Escalation path Notes
Physical order billing error remains unresolved Payment issuer billing-error notice Include receipt, order status, support response, shipment or return proof
Shipping or damaged item unresolved Carrier claim evidence plus Deseret Book support Include tracking, photos, packing slip, and return or replacement request
Bookshelf+ renewal error remains unresolved Deseret Book support, then payment issuer route where appropriate Include My Subscriptions screenshot, billing date, cancellation date, and 14-day grace request
Privacy request unresolved privacy@deseretbook.com, then state privacy regulator route where applicable Include verification status, response, and appeal record if available
Bookshelf+ legal dispute Subscription Terms arbitration notice path where applicable Bookshelf+ terms list a Notice address for covered U.S. member disputes

For credit card billing errors, the FTC says the written notice should reach the card issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent. Use the issuer's billing inquiry address and include copies of supporting records.
