The Criterion Channel

How to Cancel The Criterion Channel Subscription

The Criterion Channel, launched in 2019, is a film lover's dream, offering a curated library of classic, indie, and international cinema. But maybe you've watched all the Kurosawa films you can handle, or you're just trying to cut back on streaming costs. With plans from $10.99 a month, you can save up to $100 a year by cancelling. This guide covers how to cancel on desktop, iOS, and Android. A lot of film buffs have been talking about how Criterion has the original 1954 Godzilla, which is a cool contrast to the recent Godzilla Minus One hype. But even classic monster movies can't always justify another monthly charge. Let's get it cancelled.

How to Cancel The Criterion Channel Subscription on Desktop

This is the most direct way to cancel if you signed up on their website. Weirdly, when I tried this on my phone's browser, the account page was a mess. I'd stick to a desktop for this one to be safe.

1 Log In to Your Account

Go to the official Criterion Channel website and log into your account. If you forgot your password, now's the time to reset it.

2 Navigate to Your Profile

Click on your profile icon in the top-right corner of the page. A dropdown menu will appear.

3 Select 'Account'

From the menu, select 'Account'. This will take you to your account settings dashboard.

4 Find the Cancel Subscription Link

In your account settings, find the 'Subscription' section. You should see an option that says 'Cancel Subscription'. Click it. Honestly, I had to scroll a bit to find it, it wasn't as obvious as I'd hoped.

5 Confirm the Cancellation

The site will likely ask you why you're leaving and might show you a confirmation pop-up. Confirm your cancellation. You should receive an email confirming the cancellation shortly after.

How to Cancel The Criterion Channel Subscription on iOS

If you subscribed through the App Store, you have to cancel it through Apple. You can't cancel it on the Criterion website. It's a common mistake.

1 Open Settings

Open the 'Settings' app on your iPhone or iPad. Don't bother looking in the Criterion Channel app itself, the control isn't there.

2 Tap Your Apple ID

Tap on your name/Apple ID at the very top of the Settings screen.

3 Go to Subscriptions

Select the 'Subscriptions' option from the list.

4 Find The Criterion Channel

Find 'The Criterion Channel' in your list of active subscriptions and tap on it.

5 Tap 'Cancel Subscription'

Tap the 'Cancel Subscription' button and confirm your choice. Your subscription will now show an expiration date instead of a renewal date.

How to Cancel The Criterion Channel Subscription on Android

Just like with Apple, if you signed up via the Google Play Store, this is the only place you can cancel. The Criterion website won't help you.

1 Open the Play Store

Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.

2 Tap Your Profile Icon

Tap on your profile icon in the top-right corner.

3 Select 'Payments & subscriptions'

In the menu that appears, tap on 'Payments & subscriptions'.

4 Choose 'Subscriptions'

Choose 'Subscriptions' to see all your active subscriptions managed by Google Play.

5 Find and Cancel the Subscription

Find The Criterion Channel in the list and tap on it. Then, tap 'Cancel subscription' and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.

How to Cancel The Criterion Channel Subscription on Roku or Amazon Prime Channels

This is a big one. If you didn't sign up directly on the Criterion Channel website, you have to cancel where you started. This trips a lot of people up.

1 Cancel Through the Third Party

If you subscribed via Roku, go to my.roku.com, sign in, and manage your subscriptions there. If you used Amazon Prime Video Channels, you must log into your Amazon account and cancel it from the 'Memberships & Subscriptions' section.

Cancel The Criterion Channel Subscription with email

You can email their support team at help@criterionchannel.com. Don't expect an instant reply. Usually, you'll hear back within 1-2 business days. This is your best bet for any billing disputes, but don't use it to cancel, they'll just tell you to follow the steps online.

The Criterion Channel won't delete your account data, you just lose access to streaming when your current billing period ends. They do not offer refunds for partial months or if you forget to cancel. So if your subscription renews today and you cancel tomorrow, you've paid for the full month. Super annoying, but that's the policy. There is no option to pause your subscription.

The Criterion Channel Plans and Pricing 2025

Plan Price Details
Monthly $10.99/month Access to the entire streaming library, including special features and curated collections. Stream in HD. Cancel anytime.
Annual $99.99/year Same access as the monthly plan, but you save about $31 per year. Billed once annually. It's a better deal if you're committed.
