Cancel Genius in the Albert App
Albert's deactivation article gives this app path:
- Open Albert.
- Tap Profile.
- Open Menu.
- Select Payments.
- Open Help Center.
- Choose Deactivate or close my accounts.
- Follow the prompts until the account status changes.
- Save confirmation.
Albert says deactivation cancels the Albert subscription while keeping login details active for later reactivation. Permanent closure closes all Albert accounts. If your only goal is to stop Genius monthly billing, deactivation is the core cancellation path, but you still need to check active balances.

When contacting support, ask for a written answer to:
- whether Genius, Standard, or Family remains active
- whether deactivation is complete
- whether any Cash, Savings, Investing, Instant, or loan balance blocks closure
- whether any future subscription charge is scheduled
- whether the latest charge is eligible for review
Albert's Help Center currently lists:
| Plan |
Current Help Center price |
Cancellation note |
| Standard |
$19.99/month |
Deactivation cancels the Albert subscription |
| Genius |
$39.99/month |
Deactivation cancels Genius billing |
| Family |
$39.99/month |
Check family members before closure |
If you expected only Genius but the Payments page shows Standard or Family, save the screenshot and ask Albert which plan generated the charge.
Refunds and Smart Money Pause
Albert's Genius refund article says Albert does not offer refunds for monthly Albert subscriptions. It also says pausing Smart money does not pause Albert subscription payments.
| Situation |
What to expect |
| You cancel before the next charge |
Ask for confirmation future billing stopped |
| You were charged before cancellation |
Monthly subscription refunds are generally not offered under Albert's Help Center policy |
| You paused Smart money only |
Subscription billing may continue |
| You have Instant or loan repayment due |
Repayment obligations continue |
| You have Cash, Savings, or Investing balances |
Albert may require balances to be moved or zeroed before closure |
If you believe the charge is wrong, ask support for a written decision. Include the charge date, amount, plan name, and deactivation date.
What to Check Before Closing the Account
Albert subscriptions connect to other financial products. Review these before closing:
| Area |
Check |
| Albert Cash |
Balance, card transactions, pending deposits, pending transfers |
| Savings |
Balance and withdrawal status |
| Investing |
Balance, pending trades, transfer timing |
| Instant |
Outstanding advance, draw fee, due date, autopay |
| Loan |
Balance, autopay, due date |
| Family |
Family members connected to the plan |
| Linked accounts |
Any account that still affects repayment or transfers |
Albert says deactivation does not remove advance or loan balances owed, and automatic payments may continue if autopay is on. Separate subscription cancellation from repayment obligations.
If Albert Genius Charges You After Cancellation
Prepare:
| Evidence |
Why it matters |
| Deactivation confirmation |
Shows cancellation timing |
| Genius plan screenshot |
Shows the billed plan |
| Charge date and amount |
Identifies the billing cycle |
| Account email or phone |
Locates the account |
| Support messages |
Shows what Albert already confirmed |
| Instant or loan status |
Rules out non-subscription payments |
Ask Albert whether the charge was Standard, Genius, Family, Instant repayment, loan repayment, Cash/Card activity, or another product. If a credit card charge still appears to be a billing error after merchant review, the FTC says written billing-error notices generally must reach the card issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent.
What to Say When You Cancel
Use this script:
"Please deactivate my Albert account and cancel my Albert Genius subscription. My account email or phone is [email/phone]. The current plan shown in Payments is [Genius/Standard/Family], and the next billing date appears to be [date]. Please confirm that future Albert subscription payments are stopped and tell me whether any Cash, Savings, Investing, Instant, or loan balance must be handled before closure."
For a refund decision, add:
"A charge for [amount] posted on [date]. I requested deactivation or cancellation on [date]. Please confirm which plan generated this charge and provide the written refund decision."
