Cloth & Paper complaints usually fall into two buckets: subscription boxes or regular shop orders. Keep them separate. A subscription complaint needs the subscription account email, renewal date, box month, plan term, planner size, add-ons, and cancellation or skip record. A shop-order complaint needs the order number, item names, purchase date, return request, tracking number, photos, and whether Route Package Protection was purchased.

Cloth & Paper's help center says Customer Service can be reached at assist@clothandpaper.com or by chat during business hours. The contact page lists business hours as 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and shows the company address as 8217 Hermitage Road, Richmond, VA 23228, USA. The site also links to account-based subscription management, the Returns Portal, and Route for protected shipping issues.

Best Cloth & Paper Complaint Paths

Issue Start here What to include
Cancel an Intention Box subscription Manage Subscriptions or assist@clothandpaper.com Account email, subscription ID if available, renewal date, box month
Paid box you no longer want Customer Service by email before processing Box month, renewal charge, cancellation/refund request
Prepaid subscription issue Customer Service Term, paid months, shipped boxes, remaining boxes
Planner size or add-on mistake Subscription account, then support Size selected, renewal date, add-on order, change date
Missing or damaged shop item Returns Portal or Customer Service Order number, item, photos, packing slip, desired fix
Return or exchange Returns Portal Order number, purchase date, item condition, return reason
Shipping delay Tracking link or support Tracking number, carrier, order date, delivery status
Lost, stolen, or damaged package with Route Route claim link/app Route confirmation, tracking, photos, incident details
Billing or payment dispute Cloth & Paper support, then card issuer if needed Charge date, amount, order/subscription record, support history

Do not mix a subscription cancellation, a damaged item, and a shipping claim into one vague complaint. Each one uses a different policy and evidence set.

Step-by-Step: How to File a Cloth & Paper Complaint

1 Identify the order type

Decide whether the issue involves an Intention Box subscription, prepaid subscription term, one-time shop order, Route-protected shipment, return, exchange, gift card, digital download, or payment charge.

2 Gather the account and order records

Collect the account email, order number, renewal date, box month, plan term, planner size, item names, tracking number, Route confirmation, photos, return request, and support messages.

3 Use the official support path first

Log in and use Manage Subscriptions for subscription changes, start eligible returns in the Returns Portal, file Route-protected shipping issues with Route, or email assist@clothandpaper.com.

4 Ask for one specific outcome

Request cancellation confirmation, refund review before box processing, missing-item replacement, damaged-item review, return authorization, exchange, shipping claim status, or billing explanation.

5 Save the response

Keep the support email, chat transcript, return portal status, Route claim status, tracking page, photos, order confirmation, and payment record.

6 Escalate through the right channel

If the documented issue remains unresolved, use the payment issuer, Route claim path, marketplace order path, state consumer office, FTC, or legal route that fits the claim.

7 Keep policy timing visible

Include whether the box had already processed or shipped, whether the return was within 30 days, and whether Route Package Protection was added at checkout.

What to Have Ready Before Contacting Support

Information Why it matters
Account email Connects the shop account and subscription account
Order number Required for returns, exchanges, missing items, and billing review
Subscription renewal date Determines whether a cancellation or size change missed the renewal
Box month Needed because subscription boxes vary by month
Plan term Month-to-month and prepaid plans have different timing
Planner size Needed for size-specific inserts and accessories
Add-on list Helps support check products added to the next shipment
Tracking number Needed for delivery, delay, and lost-package complaints
Route confirmation Needed if package protection was purchased
Photos Required for damaged or defective-item review
Return portal status Shows whether the return was started and shipped back in time

For subscription complaints, include the exact month you are disputing. For shop orders, include the specific SKU or item name rather than saying "my order was wrong."

Subscription Cancellation, Renewal, and Refund Timing

Cloth & Paper's help center says subscriptions automatically renew at 12 AM Eastern on the first of each month. It also says members can cancel through the subscription account or by emailing Customer Service at assist@clothandpaper.com. Email cancellation requests may take 2 to 3 days to process.

The key rule is timing: canceling stops future renewal, but it does not automatically cancel a box already paid for. Cloth & Paper's cancellation article gives the example that if a subscription renews on May 1 and the customer cancels on May 2, the customer still receives the May box, and the subscription does not renew on June 1.

For a cancellation complaint, ask support to confirm:

  • the subscription account email
  • the next renewal date
  • whether the current box has processed
  • whether any prepaid boxes remain
  • whether the subscription is canceled, skipped, or still active
  • whether future charges are stopped
  • whether a refund review is available for an unprocessed box

If you want to cancel a box already paid for, the help center says to request it by email before that month's box processing.

Box Cutoff Dates, Shipping, and Add-Ons

The Intention Box page says subscribers should subscribe by 11:59 PM Eastern on the last day of the month to receive the current month's box, unless it sells out. It also says the box renews automatically on the first of each month and boxes begin shipping the second week of the month. Existing subscribers can manage subscriptions from the account page.

The help center says planner size changes and general box changes, including add-on edits, should happen before renewals on the first of each month. It also says cancellation requests should occur before the box enters the shipping queue.

If your complaint is about a planner size, add-on, or skipped box, include:

  • the date you made the change
  • whether the change was before or after the first-of-month renewal
  • the size selected before renewal
  • the size you wanted
  • the add-on list shown in the upcoming order
  • screenshots from the subscription account

For prepaid subscriptions, the help center says prepaid subscribers can skip a shipment within the current term, which delays the shipment by one month and extends the renewal date by one month. If that did not happen correctly, include the prepaid term and the month you attempted to skip.

Returns, Exchanges, and Damaged Items

For regular shop items, Cloth & Paper's return help article says returns and exchanges can be initiated through the Returns Portal within 30 days of the purchase date. Once a return or exchange is initiated, products must be shipped back within 7 days. It says returns are accepted at Cloth & Paper's discretion.

The same article lists several non-returnable or non-refundable categories, including gifts with purchase, Last Call or sale items, gift cards, digital downloads, personalized items, subscription boxes, used items, and items purchased more than 30 days ago.

For damaged or defective items, the help center says to submit a return or exchange request through the portal with details and photos. It says the team reviews the request within 2 to 3 business days and that confirmed damaged or defective items do not have a return shipping fee.

If a return involves a gift with purchase, the return article says the gift may need to be returned too, or its value may be deducted from the refund or store credit if the returned order no longer qualifies.

Subscription Box Return Policy

Cloth & Paper's subscription box return article says that once a box has shipped, subscription boxes are non-refundable and non-returnable because they are curated for each month. It also says customers can cancel and request a refund for a box that has not yet processed.

Use this distinction in the complaint:

Situation Stronger request
Box not processed yet Ask for cancellation and refund review by email
Box already shipped Ask for policy explanation or help with missing/damaged contents
Wrong planner size after renewal Ask support to review whether the size change was made before renewal
Missing or damaged item inside a box Send photos, box month, item list, and packing slip
Prepaid box you do not want Ask support whether refund review or remaining-box handling is available

Avoid asking for a blanket refund after shipment unless the complaint is about a documented fulfillment issue, defect, missing item, or policy mismatch.

Shipping, Route Protect, and Delivered Packages

Cloth & Paper's shipping page says domestic orders to all 50 U.S. states using Standard Shipping are shipped by UPS or USPS and generally take about 3 to 4 business days to receive once shipped. A help article says most shop orders ship from the office within 2 business days, but holidays, sales, and launches can take longer. Processing time is separate from shipping time.

For subscriptions, Cloth & Paper says existing subscriber boxes begin shipping the second week of the month. It says U.S. customers typically receive boxes in 2 to 4 business days after shipment, while international customers average 6 to 10 business days after shipment.

Cloth & Paper's shipping and Route pages say Route Package Protection can be used for lost, damaged, or stolen packages. If Route was purchased, file through the Route link, app, or web claim path. The Route help article says lost, stolen, or damaged package claims are reviewed for reorder or refund approval within 1 to 2 business days. Cloth & Paper also says it is not responsible for lost packages that are marked delivered when Route was not added.

For delivery complaints, include:

  • order number
  • tracking number
  • carrier
  • delivery date
  • whether Route was purchased
  • photos of damage if applicable
  • local delivery notes
  • Route claim number if filed

When to Escalate Beyond Cloth & Paper

Situation Escalation path Notes
Support has not confirmed cancellation Follow up by email, then payment issuer if a later charge posts Include renewal date, cancellation date, and support record
A box was charged after cancellation Cloth & Paper support, then card issuer if unresolved Include cancellation confirmation and charge details
Damaged or defective item is denied Return portal/support, then payment issuer or state consumer office if needed Include photos and policy timing
Protected shipment is lost, stolen, or damaged Route claim path Include Route confirmation and tracking
Delivered package without Route is missing Carrier/local delivery follow-up and support Cloth & Paper says it is not responsible for delivered lost packages
Third-party marketplace order The marketplace where the order was placed Cloth & Paper says those orders must be returned through the original platform
Broader order or billing complaint FTC or state consumer office Use after creating a direct support record

Escalation works better when the evidence is precise: one order, one box month, one charge, one tracking number, and one requested outcome.

What to Say in a Cloth & Paper Complaint

Use this script:

"I need Cloth & Paper to review a complaint for account [email] and order/subscription [order number, subscription ID, or box month]. The issue is [subscription cancellation, prepaid box, renewal charge, size change, add-on, missing item, damaged item, return, exchange, shipping delay, Route claim, or payment dispute]. The relevant dates are [purchase date, renewal date, cancellation date, shipping date, delivery date, return date, or claim date]. I have attached [confirmation email, screenshots, photos, tracking, Route claim, return portal status, and payment record]. I am requesting [cancellation confirmation, refund review, replacement, exchange, return status, Route claim update, or billing explanation]. Please confirm the next step in writing."

Useful follow-up questions:

  • "Has this box already processed or entered the shipping queue?"
  • "Is my subscription canceled, skipped, or still active?"
  • "Will there be another charge on the first of next month?"
  • "Did my planner size update before renewal?"
  • "Was this item non-returnable under the return policy?"
  • "Can you confirm the damaged-item review result?"
  • "Was Route Package Protection purchased for this order?"
  • "What is the return portal or Route claim status?"
