Subscription, Trial, and Refund Complaints
Spokeo's Payment Policy says trial terms are disclosed before purchase, and a trial that remains uncanceled after expiration converts to an ongoing subscription under that offer's terms. It also says cancellations of any trial product or membership plan must be received before 11:59 PM PT on the final day of the trial to prevent conversion and related charges.
For trial or membership cancellation, Spokeo says users can cancel online under Subscriptions or Usage & Subscriptions in account settings. The Payment Policy also lists Customer Care at 1-888-271-9562, available 7 days a week except Spokeo-observed holidays. If the plan was paid through PayPal, Spokeo says additional cancellation instructions are shown on the Usage & Subscriptions page.
For a refund complaint, understand the policy before writing:
| Payment type |
Policy point to address |
| Free trial conversion |
Did cancellation reach Spokeo before 11:59 PM PT on the final trial day? |
| Membership plan |
Plans are prepaid and non-refundable under the Payment Policy |
| Single report |
Premium content sales are final under the Payment Policy |
| Partial billing period |
Spokeo says processed payments are not refunded or prorated for partial-month use |
| Future billing |
A canceled plan should not bill again after cancellation confirmation |
| PayPal payment |
Confirm both Spokeo cancellation and PayPal billing status |
A strong complaint does not simply ask for an exception. It states the policy issue: wrong account, duplicate charge, cancellation confirmation before renewal, technical cancellation failure, PayPal cancellation mismatch, or product access failure.
Unknown Charge Complaints
Spokeo's contact page says charges can appear on a card statement as SPK*SPOKEO, SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH, SPOKEO *8006994264, or SPOKEO.COM 8006994264.
Before filing the complaint:
- Search every email address that may have created a Spokeo account.
- Check whether the purchase was a trial, membership plan, single report, or credit-related product.
- Check whether PayPal was used.
- Save the statement line with the date and amount visible.
- Ask Spokeo to identify the account or product connected to the descriptor.
If you recognize the account, use the subscription or refund route. If you do not recognize the account, state that the first request is account identification and billing authorization review.
Report Accuracy, FCRA, and Use-Restriction Complaints
Spokeo's Terms and site footer say Spokeo is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and that users should not use Spokeo for credit, insurance, employment, tenant screening, or other FCRA-covered purposes. The Terms also say Spokeo does not verify every piece of public information and cannot guarantee accuracy, legitimacy, or recency.
For a report accuracy complaint, include:
- profile URL
- screenshot of the inaccurate field
- source record if you know it
- whether the issue is spelling, address, phone, email, court record, business listing, or another field
- whether you want an explanation, support review, opt-out, or court-record suppression
- whether a court record has been sealed or expunged
Do not use the opt-out workflow as if it were a correction workflow. Opt-out removes a public listing from Spokeo display, but it does not change the original public source. If the issue is a sealed or expunged court record, Spokeo's Terms say to email the order to expungement@spokeo.com.
Public Listing Removal and Opt-Out Complaints
Spokeo's opt-out page says each listing has a unique URL and must be opted out individually. It also says opt-out does not remove data from the original source, information may still appear on other websites, and updated records can make a listing reappear later.
For a public listing removal request:
- Open the Spokeo profile.
- Copy the exact profile URL.
- Go to
https://www.spokeo.com/optout.
- Enter the profile URL and an email address.
- Open the confirmation email and complete the request.
- Check the listing after the stated processing window.
Spokeo's opt-out page says the request should be processed in 24-48 hours, depending on the nature and amount of data. If the request fails, include the profile URL, confirmation email, time submitted, and screenshot when contacting Customer Care or privacy@spokeo.com.
Privacy Rights and Data Requests
Spokeo's Privacy Policy separates public information from personal information supplied through an account. It says public information is collected from sources such as consumer indexes, phone directories, email databases, property records, public profiles, court records, business directories, and vital statistics. It also says Spokeo does not verify and cannot guarantee the accuracy of that public information.
For personal-information privacy requests, Spokeo says users can request to know, correct, or delete personal information through its privacy control page or by calling 1 (877) 864-0183 during business hours. The policy says Spokeo may require account login or matching information to verify the request.

What to Say in a Spokeo Complaint
Use this script:
"I need Spokeo to review a complaint for account or listing [email/profile URL]. The issue is [trial conversion, membership cancellation, refund request, unknown charge, report access, report accuracy, public listing removal, privacy request, court-record suppression, or account access]. The relevant details are [charge date, amount, product, trial dates, cancellation date, statement descriptor, profile URL, privacy request date, or court order]. I have attached [receipt, card statement, cancellation confirmation, support transcript, opt-out confirmation, screenshot, or legal order]. I am requesting [cancellation confirmation, refund review, product access fix, listing removal, privacy response, appeal review, or written explanation]. Please confirm the next step and decision in writing."
Useful follow-up questions:
- "Is this charge connected to a trial, membership plan, single report, or credit-related product?"
- "Was my cancellation received before the final trial deadline?"
- "Is the plan still active under Usage & Subscriptions?"
- "Was PayPal used, and does PayPal show the same cancellation status?"
- "Does this issue require Customer Care, the opt-out tool, the privacy request page, or an expungement email?"
- "Does my profile URL have to be submitted separately from other listings?"
- "Can Spokeo confirm the decision in writing?"
