Shutoff Protection Plan

DTE's Shutoff Protection Plan is designed for income-eligible customers. It offers more flexible terms and may include reduced down payments and extended repayment periods.

Budget billing (Budget Wise)

DTE's Budget Wise plan averages your annual costs across 12 equal monthly payments to eliminate seasonal bill spikes.

Michigan disconnection rules

  • 14-day written notice required before disconnection
  • No weekend or holiday shutoffs without same-day reconnection capability
  • Winter protection period: November 1 through March 31
  • Senior protection: Customers 62 and older are protected from disconnection during the winter period regardless of income
  • Medical protections: A medical certificate can delay disconnection

Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP)
