Budget billing (Balanced Billing)

Averages annual costs across 12 equal monthly payments.

New Jersey protections

Winter Termination Program

The NJ Winter Termination Program runs from November 15 through March 15. During this period, qualifying residential customers are protected from disconnection of electric, gas, water, and sewer services.

Universal Service Fund (USF)

New Jersey's USF provides monthly credits to income-eligible utility customers, reducing their bills to an affordable percentage of income.

NJ SHARES

NJ SHARES provides one-time grants to help customers pay energy bills. Available to those who do not qualify for other assistance programs.

LIHEAP New Jersey

Federal LIHEAP assistance is available through local Community Action Agencies.

How to file a NJ BPU complaint

  • Phone: 800-624-0241
  • Online: nj.gov/bpu
  • Include: Account number, timeline, representative names, and requested resolution

Quick action checklist

  1. Call PSE&G at 800-436-7734 for a payment arrangement
  2. Ask about Back on Track if income-eligible
  3. Apply for USF, NJ SHARES, and LIHEAP
  4. If PSE&G refuses, file a BPU complaint at 800-624-0241

Bottom line

New Jersey's Winter Termination Program, USF, and BPU complaint process give PSE&G customers strong protections. Use all available assistance programs and file the BPU complaint if PSE&G is not cooperating.
