How to cancel Patreon through the correct billing owner
Web cancellation
Cancel Patreon through Web
1Open Settings
Go to patreon.com in a browser and log in. If you also have a creator profile, click your profile image and switch to your member profile first. In the left-hand navigation, select the Settings option (gear icon) so you’re viewing your personal account settings, not creator tools.
2Open Memberships
In Settings, open the Memberships tab. This page lists your active creator memberships tied to this Patreon account. Confirm that the creator you want to stop supporting appears here with the correct tier and billing amount before changing anything.

3Choose the creator membership
On the Memberships tab, find the specific creator you want to cancel. Click the View details button for that creator to open a detailed view of your membership, including tier information, billing model, next billing date, and any free membership option that may be available.
4Select Edit or Cancel membership and confirm
In the membership details, choose the option to Cancel membership (wording may appear as an Edit or Cancel action near your tier). When prompted, confirm that you want to stop future payments. On the next screen, choose whether to remain a free member or turn that off, then select Save and continue. If an exit survey appears, you can optionally submit feedback before returning to the Memberships page, where the creator should no longer appear under Active memberships.
iOS cancellation
Cancel Patreon through iOS
1Open Settings
On your iPhone or iPad, open the Apple Settings app from your home screen. Make sure you’re signed into the Apple ID that’s being charged for Patreon. You do not need to open the Patreon app for this flow; iOS subscriptions are managed centrally in system settings.
2Tap your name
At the top of Settings, tap your Apple ID banner showing your name and profile photo. This opens account-level options, including media, purchases, and subscriptions linked to your Apple ID.

3Open Subscriptions
In the Apple ID menu, tap the option that leads to your Subscriptions list (often labeled “Subscriptions,” or accessed through “Media & Purchases” → “Subscriptions,” depending on your iOS version). Wait for iOS to load all active and expired subscriptions tied to this Apple ID.
4Choose Patreon
In the Subscriptions list, look for any entry labeled Patreon or clearly associated with the specific creator or digital product you purchased through the Patreon iOS app. Tap that entry to open its subscription details, review the renewal date and price, and confirm this is the membership you intend to stop.
5Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm
In the subscription details screen, use the Cancel Subscription control (or an equivalent option shown by iOS) to stop renewal. Confirm when Apple asks if you want to cancel. After the confirmation, iOS should show an updated status or end date. Apple manages when access ends for this store-billed subscription; Patreon’s own cancellation tools and refund flows may not apply to these charges.
Google Play cancellation
Cancel Patreon through Google Play
1Open Google Play
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app. Confirm you are signed into the Google account that shows Patreon or creator charges on your payment statement, since subscriptions are tied to specific Google accounts.
2Open Payments & subscriptions
In Google Play, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner to open the account menu. From the menu, choose the option that leads to billing management—typically labeled “Payments & subscriptions” or similar—so you can review active Google Play subscriptions linked to this account.

3Open Subscriptions
From the Payments & subscriptions area, tap Subscriptions. Google Play will display a list of current and past subscriptions. Wait for it to load fully so you can see whether any Patreon or creator-branded subscription is managed through Google Play rather than directly in Patreon.
4Choose Patreon
In the Subscriptions list, find the Patreon entry or any subscription that clearly corresponds to your Patreon membership. Tap it to open details such as renewal date, price, and status, and make sure it matches the membership you want to stop.
5Tap Cancel subscription and confirm
Within the subscription details, use the Cancel subscription option offered by Google Play and follow the prompts to confirm. Once confirmed, Google Play will show an updated end date or status. That subscription will no longer renew through Google’s billing system; access typically lasts until the end of the current Google Play billing period, independent of changes you make within Patreon’s own settings.
Refund policy
Patreon refunds after you cancel a membership
Patreon generally does not guarantee refunds when you cancel, but it offers structured options to request them. Standard membership charges can often be reviewed through your Billing history, while legacy per‑creation charges and iOS in‑app purchases have special handling. Refund decisions consider delivery of benefits and the platform’s Refund Policy.
Check my refund options- Standard stance on refunds
- Patreon’s Terms of Use explain that the platform’s policy is not to provide refunds, including if you lose access to offerings or membership benefits, although Patreon may grant exceptions at its sole discretion. This applies whether access ended because you canceled, a creator removed a membership, or Patreon took action on an account.
- Self-service refund requests from Billing history
- For most Patreon-billed membership payments, you can request a refund directly from your Billing history within the timeframe described in Patreon’s refund article. You select a payment, choose Request refund from the menu, pick a reason, and submit it. Creators review these requests and can approve or decline them, subject to overall policy.
- Handling per-creation and special cases
- Per‑creation transactions cannot be refunded through the Billing history self-service flow. If you were charged per post and believe you should receive a refund, Patreon instructs you to contact Product Support. Support may also issue refunds on a creator’s behalf when there is suspected fraud or other issues under the Refund Policy.
- Digital products and iOS in-app purchases
- Digital product refunds are usually coordinated with the creator via your Purchases page, and creators can process them from their Sales tab. For purchases made through the Patreon iOS app using Apple’s billing system, Patreon notes that refunds must be requested through Apple’s refund process with your Apple ID; Apple handles timing and approval.
If you need to challenge a specific charge or can’t submit a refund request through Billing history, use Patreon’s refund help article to reach Product Support or follow the Apple iOS refund instructions for App Store–billed purchases. Go to Patreon’s refund help article
After you cancel
How Patreon’s billing models affect post-cancel access
Patreon supports several billing models, and the timing of your access ending after cancellation depends on which model your creator uses. Checking your Billing history and the details of recent charges helps you understand what to expect.
Subscription billing memberships
If your creator uses subscription billing (the current default), canceling stops future renewals, and you normally retain access until your next billing date. Your Billing history will show processing dates throughout the month rather than only on the 1st, with the Details month matching the processing month.
Legacy monthly (non-upfront) memberships
For some older monthly memberships that do not charge upfront, Patreon notes you can lose access when you cancel. In these cases, canceling both stops renewal and may immediately remove your access to the creator’s paid posts.
Per-creation memberships
Creators on the legacy per‑creation model charge for each paid post. Patreon explains that if you cancel a per‑creation membership, you can lose access when you cancel and may still be charged for any paid posts published before the cancellation is processed, as outlined in your Billing history.
Charge-upfront memberships
With charge‑upfront billing, you pay immediately for a month of access. Patreon’s guidance indicates that when you cancel a charge‑upfront membership, you usually keep access until your next billing date, after which your membership will not renew.
Annual memberships
Some creators offer annual memberships. Patreon’s annual membership docs state that existing members keep their current annual plan until they decide to cancel, and those memberships continue to auto-renew annually under the original terms unless you cancel before the renewal date.
Billing behavior
Charges to expect before and after cancellation
Patreon’s billing help center articles explain how pending bills, retries, and timing can lead to charges even close to or after when you cancel. Reviewing these patterns reduces surprises on your statement.
Pending bills at cancellation time
Patreon notes that for some billing models, canceling can trigger processing of pending bills that have not yet been successfully charged. Your Billing history is the source of truth for whether any unpaid but owed amounts will be collected even after you initiate cancellation.
Retries after declined payments
If a membership charge is declined, Patreon’s billing systems may retry the payment. This can result in a successful charge after you believe you’ve canceled, especially if the decline happened before you canceled. The “Why was I charged after canceling?” article explains how retries work and when they occur.
Subscription billing cutoff
With subscription billing, Patreon explains that canceling before your next billing date prevents another cycle from renewing. Because processing can happen up to roughly 24 hours before the displayed billing date due to time zones and processing windows, it’s safest to cancel a bit in advance of that date.
Per-creation posts after you cancel
If you follow a creator on a per‑creation billing model and they publish paid posts before your cancellation completes, Patreon may still bill you for those posts. The “Charged more than my membership amount” and cancellation guidance both highlight that multiple paid posts in a month can add up beyond your usual expectation.
Creator-initiated cancellations
Patreon explains that a creator can remove your membership or change availability of offerings. If the creator ends your membership or removes tiers, you might see your access stop without having canceled yourself, and your Billing history will show the last successful payment date and details.
Alternatives to cancel
Using free memberships instead of paid support
Patreon now supports free memberships that let you stay connected to creators without ongoing charges. The standard cancellation flow includes an option to remain a free member when you stop paying.
Free membership toggle in cancel flow
Patreon’s cancellation guide shows that after you choose Cancel membership, you’re asked whether to stay connected as a free member. You can either leave this option on to keep receiving free updates or toggle it off if you want to remove the membership entirely.
Canceling a free membership later
The Manage your membership section includes a separate article for “Canceling a free membership.” If you kept a free membership when you canceled paid support, you can later remove that free membership from your account through Settings if you no longer want to follow the creator.
Impact on creator analytics
Free memberships still appear in creators’ member lists and analytics. Staying as a free member may help creators understand audience interest even when you’re not paying, and they can offer occasional public or free-tier posts that you’ll still see.
Visibility and privacy controls
Patreon’s visibility settings article explains that you can manage how your memberships and activity appear to others. If you remain a free member after canceling paid support but prefer not to be listed publicly, you can adjust your membership and activity visibility in your Personal settings.
Refund rules
Refund options after canceling a Patreon membership
Patreon’s Terms of Use and refund help articles emphasize that refunds are not automatic when you cancel. However, there are structured ways to request a refund for memberships and digital purchases, and different rules apply for per‑creation charges and iOS in‑app purchases.
Default “no refunds” stance
Patreon’s Terms of Use state that Patreon’s policy is generally not to provide refunds, including when you lose access to offerings or subscription benefits, though Patreon may make exceptions at its sole discretion. This applies both to canceled memberships and to other situations where access changes.
Requesting refunds from Billing history
For most standard membership payments and many digital products, you can request a refund directly from your Billing history within a specified time window. The “How to request a refund” article walks you through selecting a payment, opening the menu, choosing Request refund, and submitting a reason for the request.
Per-creation charge refunds
Patreon’s refund articles explain that per‑creation transactions can’t be refunded through the Billing history self-service flow. If you were charged per post and believe the charge is inappropriate, you need to contact Patreon Product Support, which will review per‑creation cases under the platform’s Refund Policy.
iOS in-app purchase refunds
For digital products or memberships purchased through the Patreon iOS app using Apple’s in‑app purchase system, Patreon notes that refunds must be requested through Apple’s refund flow with your Apple ID. Apple processes those refunds on its own timeline; Patreon may not be able to adjust or override Apple’s decisions.
Creator-initiated and support-initiated refunds
Creators can manage refund requests in their Refunds tab and may approve or decline them. Patreon’s guidance notes that its Support team can step in and issue refunds in some circumstances, including fraud or unresolved creator requests, consistent with Patreon's Refund Policy and Commerce Guidelines.
Troubleshooting
Finding “missing” memberships before you cancel
If you don’t see a cancel button where you expect it, Patreon’s cancellation FAQ suggests checking for multiple accounts, already-canceled memberships, or creator-removed memberships before assuming something is broken.
Using Billing history as source of truth
Patreon recommends using your Billing history as the authoritative record of processed payments. If you see past payments to a creator there but no corresponding active membership under Memberships, you have likely already canceled or the creator has ended your membership.
Resetting your password to find other accounts
The cancellation guide suggests that unfamiliar charges or missing memberships can be caused by having more than one Patreon account. Reset your password using all email addresses you might have used; if you receive multiple reset emails, sign in to each account and check its Memberships and Billing history.
Creator removed or changed your membership
Patreon notes that creators can remove memberships or change tiers, which can cause your membership to disappear from Active memberships even if you did not cancel. In this situation, Billing history still shows past charges, but you may no longer see an option to manage that membership.
Store-billed vs Patreon-billed confusion
If you do not see an expected membership under Memberships, but your bank or platform statement shows charges from Apple or Google, your purchase may be store-billed. In that case, check your Apple or Google Play subscription lists, because cancellations and some refunds must happen through those platforms rather than inside Patreon.
Alternatives
Pause tools for creators vs canceling as a member
Patreon distinguishes between creator-level pause tools and member-level cancellation. As a member, you cannot pause your own membership from your side; instead, creators can pause billing globally, which changes how your charges behave.
No member-side pause feature
Patreon’s member FAQs indicate there is currently no built-in “pause my membership” feature for individual members. If you want to stop paying but might rejoin later, your option is to cancel the membership and then re-subscribe when you’re ready.
Creator pause of monthly billing
Creators can use a Pause billing control in their Billing and payouts settings. When a creator pauses billing, Patreon notes that members generally retain access, and subscription-billed members are not charged for one month starting from the day the creator pauses.
iOS pause interactions
Patreon’s pause article explains that for members who joined through iOS in‑app purchases, Patreon notifies Apple several days before the billing date when a creator pauses billing. To avoid skipped charges when unpausing, creators are advised to plan around Apple’s pre-billing window.
Impact on your decision to cancel
If you know a creator is pausing billing for a specific month, you may not need to cancel just to avoid a single charge. However, if you want full control over future renewals as a member, canceling your membership remains the only guaranteed way to stop ongoing charges from your side.
Devices
Differences between canceling in app and on web
Patreon’s feature matrix shows that you can edit or cancel memberships from iOS, Android, desktop, and mobile web. However, some billing and history tools are only on web, so you may need to switch devices depending on what you’re trying to do.
Editing memberships in the app
The “Using the Patreon app” article confirms that both iOS and Android apps support an “Edit my membership” function, which lets you upgrade, downgrade, or cancel a membership from your phone without opening a browser, as long as the membership is managed directly by Patreon.
Billing history only on web
The same feature table notes that Billing history is only available on desktop and mobile web, not in the iOS or Android apps. If you are checking whether a cancellation went through or which billing model you’re on, you’ll need to log in through a browser to view your full Billing history.
Payment method management
Patreon allows you to manage payment methods on file from iOS, Android, desktop, and mobile web. However, updating a card or PayPal method in Patreon generally only affects Patreon-billed memberships and does not change Apple or Google Play subscriptions.
Commerce purchases and the Shop tab
If creators sell digital products, the Shop tab appears in the Patreon app and on web. Canceling a membership in Settings does not cancel individual digital product purchases; refund or order questions for those items are handled via your Purchases page or by messaging the creator.
Scope of cancel
Membership cancellation vs digital products in Commerce
Patreon now supports both recurring memberships and one‑time digital product sales. Canceling a membership only affects ongoing subscription payments; it does not automatically cancel or refund standalone purchases from a creator’s shop.
Membership earnings vs shop earnings
Patreon’s Shop Insights article distinguishes membership earnings from shop earnings in creator reporting. This reflects the platform-level separation between recurring memberships and one‑time Commerce purchases, which are managed and refunded differently.
Viewing your purchases
As a buyer, your digital product purchases appear under the Purchases tab, not the Memberships tab. The “My purchases” article explains how to find individual items, view receipts, and access downloads, which is separate from managing recurring memberships in Settings → Memberships.
Requesting refunds on digital products
For digital products, Patreon directs you to contact the creator from the Purchases page by opening the item, using the menu, and selecting Message creator. Creators then handle those refund or access questions, and may also issue refunds from their Sales tab if appropriate.
Platform-wide refund policy for Commerce
Patreon’s Commerce Guidelines and Refund Policy describe how refunds for products and memberships are evaluated. Canceling a membership does not automatically trigger refunds for past digital product purchases; each transaction is considered under the overall Refund Policy.
