How to Cancel QuickBooks Subscription

So, you decided to break up with QuickBooks. It happens. Founded by Intuit way back in 1983, QuickBooks is the go-to accounting software for small businesses, but it's not for everyone. Maybe you saw all those TikToks about starting a side hustle, signed up to be financially responsible, and now realize you're in over your head. With plans ranging from $30 to $200, the costs add up fast. This guide covers canceling on Desktop, iOS, and Android, and could save you up to $2400 a year. Let's get this done.

How to Cancel QuickBooks Subscription on Desktop

This is the most reliable way to cancel. For some reason, trying to do this on the mobile app can be a real headache. Stick to your computer for this one.

1 Log In to Your Account

First, open your web browser and sign in to your QuickBooks Online account. This is where they hide all the important stuff.

2 Find the Settings Gear

Find the Settings icon, which looks like a gear, usually in the top right corner of the page. Click on it.

3 Go to Account and Settings

Under the 'Your Company' column, select Account and settings. It's not always the most obvious choice, is it?

4 Open Billing & Subscription

On the left menu, click the Billing & Subscription tab. This is where the magic happens. I had to wait for this page to load for a bit, so be patient if it spins for a second.

5 Select 'Cancel Subscription'

You should see your current plan. In that section, click the Cancel subscription or Cancel trial link. Make sure you're really canceling the right thing.

6 Follow the Prompts to Confirm

QuickBooks will ask you a bunch of questions about why you're leaving. Just click through the survey or prompts until you get a final confirmation screen. Don't close the window until you see that confirmation.

How to Cancel QuickBooks Subscription on iOS

Use this method only if you subscribed through the Apple App Store. If you signed up on the QuickBooks website, this won't work. It's a common point of confusion.

1 Open Your iPhone Settings

Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Not the QuickBooks app, the main device settings.

2 Tap Your Apple ID

Tap on your name and Apple ID at the very top of the screen.

3 Select 'Subscriptions'

Select the Subscriptions option from the list.

4 Find QuickBooks

Find and tap on your QuickBooks subscription in the list of active subscriptions.

5 Tap 'Cancel Subscription'

Tap the Cancel Subscription button and confirm your choice. If you don't see it here, you probably subscribed directly on their website and need to use the Desktop method.

How to Cancel QuickBooks Subscription on Android

Just like with iOS, this method is only for subscriptions made through the Google Play Store. If you signed up on a desktop, you have to cancel it on a desktop. Annoying, I know.

1 Open the Google Play Store

Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device.

2 Tap Your Profile Icon

Tap on your profile icon, which is usually in the top-right corner.

3 Go to 'Payments & subscriptions'

From the menu, tap on Payments & subscriptions.

4 Select 'Subscriptions'

Next, tap on Subscriptions to see all your active subs.

5 Find and Cancel QuickBooks

Find QuickBooks in the list and tap on it. Then, hit Cancel subscription and follow any final prompts. Easy.

Cancel QuickBooks Subscription with phone

You can call QuickBooks support at 1-800-446-8848 (1-800-4-INTUIT). They are typically available from 6 AM to 6 PM PT, Monday through Friday. Be prepared for a bit of a wait and to verify your account information. One user on Reddit said, 'I had to call twice. The first rep tried to sell me a different plan for 10 minutes before processing the cancellation.' So, be firm.

Cancel QuickBooks Subscription with live chat

Live chat is often faster than calling. To access it, log in to your QuickBooks Online account, click the Help (?) icon in the top right, and look for the Contact Us button. From there, you can start a chat session. This only worked for me on a desktop browser, the option was missing on mobile.

Before you hit cancel, take a deep breath. First, QuickBooks will not delete your data right away. It becomes read-only for about a year, so you can still view it but can't add anything new. Second, you will not get a refund. All subscriptions are non-refundable, so you'll just have access until your current billing cycle ends. Lastly, you can pause your subscription for up to 90 days, which might be a better option if you're just taking a break.
